GATHERING, by SAPIEN

Sapien evokes the common heritage of humankind with these contemporary arrangements played on age-old primitive musical instruments from cultures around the world. It has been a universal human experience to feel animal skins vibrate on wood, strings resonate with the touch of fingers and wooden flutes enlivened by breath. This music was conceived deep within the womb of Earth Mother, born around a hundred camp fires, and is given to that deep place within that moves you. A first round Grammy nominee for Best New Age Album of the Year in the 40th Grammy Awards in February 1998, "Gathering" has been featured on the Public Radio International (PRI) program "Echoes", as well as being a top five finalist in the New Age Voice Music Awards as Best Contemporary Native American Album of the Year, in 1998. Hawk was a founding member of the band Sapien, along with his good friends, Frank Chambless and Snowbear Taylor.
