"BUFFALO DREAMING
BALLADS, STORIES, and MUSIC FROM the DAWN of TIME!"

The power of music and ancient tales has woven magic into the lives of human beings since the dawn of time, unerringly leading us back to places of primal wonder. As in the days of old, when young and old would marvel, eyes wide with awe, spellbound, sitting around the campfire, listening to stories under a starry sky, Buffalo Dreaming allows our spirits to soar to realms where the imagination roams free! This album is a delightful offering of original and traditional songs, stories, poems, folk ballads, and rhythmical creations that is sure to please all ages. Relying upon many hand-made, primitive musical instruments, this project gratefully draws from the ancient wisdom and beauty of cultures all over the world.
"Buffalo Dreaming" Review by Sylvia Payne, Journal of Tar Heel Tellers, Vol. 8, #2, Sept. 2001.
"Listening to this eclectic CD will take you back to the beginning of time where ancient cultures spring to life. You will understand how some things came to be. You will hear and feel the resonance of primitive rhythm instruments from around the world. If you are even a little curious you will enjoy this recording from beginning to end. You will learn about the origin of the clay UDU drum, find out why Kokopelli appears to have a hump on his back, how the first "flute" came about and much, much more. Listening to the story of "Grandma and Her Drum", you can hear the sound of the jug as it falls to the ground and breaks. She is very upset with herself, but soon discovers that adversity can mean the discovery of a new sound; a musical sound! You can hear the broken jug as it goes "udu-udu-udu"; hence the UDU drum. Storyteller, author, and musician Hawk Hurst has produced this new CD, filled with original and traditional ballads, poems, stories, and rhythmical creations. Hawk has studied the primitive instruments you hear throughout this recording, along with the history and lore behind them. He hand-crafts many of the instruments that he uses in his performances. When not performing solo, he is a member of the Grammy nominated band, SAPIEN: Whole World Music. You mustn't miss this multi-talented storyteller's recording!"

"The Buffalo Dreaming CD is really fantastic! So much beauty, creativity and wonderful messages. It's such a reflection of who you are and all the years you've put into refining your music and storytelling." - Herbie Walters, Conflict Resolution Specialist & Outdoor Educator, Ceelo, NC.

"I have enjoyed listening to your new CD, Buffalo Dreaming a lot! As you might imagine, I listen to many CDs each week. It is always a pleasure to come across something new that not only entertains but educates me as well. By the way, the cover of the CD is beautiful!" - Michael Ryan, Borders Multimedia Manager, Kansas City, MO.
