Hawk has offered his lively storytelling performances and musical instrument-making residencies at schools and festivals all across the country for nearly two decades. He is serving as the 2008 President for the SC Storytelling Network, and is a long standing member of the NC Storytelling Guild, the SC Artist Roster, the Southern Artistry Roster, and the SC Native American Flute Circle.

A Stories for Life approved instructor, Hawk leads unique storytelling residencies, using a SC State Education Standards approved curriculum. He serves as the co-chair and Director of the Stories for Life Festival, (2007 & 2008) - a unique storytelling and literary arts event he helped to establish in Charleston, South Carolina.

Recently Hawk has been a featured performer at the ‘05 and ‘06, South Carolina and North Carolina State Storytelling Festivals, ‘06 NC Storyfest, the ‘03-‘06 Piccolo Spoleto and North Charleston Arts Festivals, and the ‘07 Cypress Gardens ‘Breath of Spring Festival. He was the featured workshop leader at the ‘07 NC Storytelling Guilds Spring Retreat. In 2002, Hawk was honored to tour the country of South Africa, with the Grammy-nominated band, SAPIEN.

He is a six time recording artist and an author. His first children’s book, “The Story of the First Flute”, was released in 2002 by Parkway Publishers. His next book, based on his original story, “The Way of the Forest”, is set for publication in 2008. Hawk personally crafts many of the Native American-style flutes, drums, and rattles used during his shows. He has been creating and playing traditional Native American-style flutes and drums for nearly two decades. He considers himself very fortunate to have studied with some of the finest Native American artists and Wisdom Keepers across North America. Hawk’s educational background includes a Masters of Science degree in Environmental Education from Lesley College and the Audubon Expedition Institute, as well as Bachelors of Science degrees in both Political Science and in Psychology, graduating Phi Beta Kapa from the University of Oklahoma.

Hawk has long worked in the field of Environmental Education. He continues to teach at outdoor centers such as the Green River Preserve, Blue Star Camps, Buffalo Cove Outdoor Center, Creative Spark, and the Kiawah Island Nature Center. He and his wife, Ayal, were the co-founders and former directors of a unique, non-profit summer camp and outdoor education center, known as E.A.R.T.H. Camp Programs at Silver Water Retreat. The programs, which have been ongoing for nearly two decades, focus on ancestral and Native American living skills, organic gardening, outdoor education, nature awareness, and alternative energy.
