Hawk Hurst - Storyteller - Folk Musician - Performing Artist
Hawk’s performances dynamically bring the wonders and wisdom of ancient cultures to life, as he shares from a storehouse of firsthand experiences. Fun-filled and highly educational, audience participation is an integral part of each show. The selections Hawk shares, offer a fresh perspective of how our ancestors came to value and respect the diversity of the natural world around them. Performances emphasize positive character development and the importance of finding our creativity within our community. Many of Hawk’s stories and songs incorporate unique musical instruments from around the world, such as rivercane flutes, turtle-shell rattles, and beaver skin drums of North America; the udu, djembe, and talking drums of West Africa; the one-stringed gopichan and berimbau from India and Brazil; and the bullroarer of Australia.

Hawk Hurst - Storyteller - Folk Musician - Performing Artist
Storytelling performances are inspiring, fun, and highly educational, and often incorporate drumming and flute playing. Shows are easily adjusted to fit the group size, the occasion, and the age group, including pre-K, elementary, middle school, college, adult, and family. Fees are dependent upon the length and type of program presented, the number of performances and days booked, as well as, travel requirements. Discounts are available for back-to-back and block bookings.

SHOWS OFFERED INCLUDE:
* Turtle Tales: Myths and stories all about turtles, terrapins, tortoises, and tortugas.
* Earth, Water, Fire, & Air: Combining the science of the four elements and ancient living skills, this show draws from tribal myths and music
* Native American Myths & Legends. A variety of stories and music from across North America, including Cherokee, Creek, Lakota, and Navajo.
* Origins of Musical Instruments: Teaching stories, some traditional and some crafted by Hawk, about the origins of the flutes, drums, etc.
* Wisdom Tales: Traditional tales from various cultures around the world. Music included.
* Personal Stories from Hawk’s first-hand experiences with his friends of the Cherokee, Creek, Makah, Navajo, Hopi, Yoruba, and Zulu nations.
* Personal Stories from Hawk’s childhood, where he was raised on a family farm and ranch in rural Kansas.

Musical performances are interactive, educational and lots of fun, while always being geared specifically to the audience. Storytelling is often integrated into Hawk’s musical performances. Shows are easily adjusted to fit the group size, the occasion, and the age group, including pre-K, elementary, middle school, college, adult, and family. Fees are dependent upon the length and type of program presented, the number of performances and days booked, as well as, travel requirements. Discounts are available for back-to-back and block bookings.

SHOWS MAY INCLUDE:
* Native American flute playing, using flutes made from rivercane, wood, bone, horn, gourds, and bamboo. (This collection is available as a traveling exhibit!)
* Native American songs & chants, traditional & adapted songs, accompanied by a variety of drums and assorted instruments like deer toenail rattles & turtle shell shakers.
* West African drumming and songs of the Yoruba people, accompanied by djembe, dun-dun, udu, and ashiko drums.
